The Hidden Gatlinburg Gem

I’ll be honest, I’m a bit reluctant to share this secret with you. After all, when people start discovering this cabin, I may never be able to book it again. Yes it’s that fantastic! Let me begin with how I found this cabin and then I’ll give you the details on this magnificent destination.

About 2 years ago we were planning a trip to Gatlinburg, TN. Our family hadn’t been since about 1989, so we weren’t too familiar with any lodging choices. We knew we wanted to stay in Gatlinburg. I say that because I find that a number of people seem to think they are in Gatlinburg, but they are truly in Pigeon Forge or one of the other nearby areas. We were seeking a cabin not too far from the main strip. If you’ve ever been there, you know I’m referring to the main parkway that details locations based on the traffic light number…….but I digress. Searching for a cabin can be exhausting. Believe me, I know, I’ve done the leg work. While we found a number of beautiful cabins, we also recognized that they were pretty far up the mountain. Driving down a fairly steep terrain every time I want to leave the cabin just wasn’t an option. After several weeks of research I happened upon Laurel Lodge. Oh just the name elicits thoughts of morning coffee on the porch swing or late nights in the theater room. Yes, I’ll give you a moment to go back and read that statement. I did, in fact, say the theater room.

We booked our vacation through Jackson Mountain Homes (www.jacksonmountainhomes.com). I can’t say enough about their friendly and welcoming nature. Of course I had a few questions prior to the trip and each time I called or emailed I was greeted with a helpful voice providing me with the information I was seeking.

After a prompt check in and a map from the Jackson Mountain Homes Office we headed on our way to find the cabin. Near traffic light #2, this three story home has everything the Gatlinburg traveler is seeking. With 5 bedrooms and 4 full bathrooms we had plenty room for the 8 of us to stretch out. On the main floor are 2 bedrooms, one has a bathroom attached and the other has a bathroom directly across from it in the hall. On the lower level, stairs lead down to the enormous theater room equipped with a 90 inch screen. Several late nights were spent lounging in the extra comfy chairs watching our favorite flicks, all within the comfort of our own cabin (and sometimes our p.j.s). Off the side of the theater room were two bedrooms and a full bathroom. The bedrooms each have direct access outside. On the top floor was yet another large bedroom with an attached bath. Adjacent to the bedroom are a pool table and balcony to the great outdoors.

Gatlinburg has so much to offer especially during the spring, summer and fall months. You spend the majority of your day finding numerous activities to keep you busy, so each night we were grateful to relax and take comfort in Laurel Lodge. I honestly couldn’t tell you how I happened upon finding such a wonderful place to stay…….but I can tell you that I’m headed back.
